How To Correctly Determine All Your Body Measurements

Updated: May 28, 2021

Whether you’re on a weight loss journey or you’re just trying to make your diet and routine healthier, tracking your body weight and measurements is something that helps a lot with this progress.

It helps you figure which changes are positively affecting your body and which places you need to work on. Plus, maintaining a healthy body fat percentage is a beneficial investment inside and out. Here’s how you can track your body weight, body fat percentage, and all your body circumferences the right way.

How To Keep Track Of Your Body Weight:

Keeping track of your body weight is completely simple, all you have to do is keep these few simple tips in mind when you’re measuring your body weight.

  • Using a simple weighing scale, always measure your weight at the same time everyday (preferably in the mornings, after you’re done with the restroom)

  • Make sure to either always wear the same type of minimal clothes while measuring your weight, or track it while you’re naked

  • If possible, measure your body weight once in the morning and once at night so that you can keep track of how much your weight fluctuates throughout the day

  • Always use the same scale, since the difference in scales can end up in a difference of weight by the pound

  • Write down your body weight in an everyday journal to keep track of how your weight fluctuates throughout the week based on the difference in activities and diets

How To Measure Your Body Fat Percentage:

Measuring and keeping track of your body fat is also an important step, and it’s easier than you think it might be. Here are the steps on how to calculate your body fat percentage:

  • I use Renpho Smart Scales to track my body fat percentage, they are very accurate and also measure muscle mass among other useful body measurements. You can also order them from Amazon. I also recommend all my clients invest in these because after using many other options available to measure body fat percentage, these are also by far the easiest to use.

  • For men, 8% to 20% is a healthy body fat percentage. (11% to 22% for 40+ years old and 13% to 25% for 60+ years old)

  • For women, a healthy body percentage is anywhere between 21% and 33%.

I think it’s important to know what your body fat percentage is because after coaching over 1000 people, I’ve found that a lot of people think they need to keep loosing weight. When actually they are in a healthy body fat percentage range. When you know you’re in a healthy range you can then look at other numbers to chase, like how many push-up you can do, how much you can squat, how fast you can run, just to mansion a few.

How To Measure All Body Circumferences:

The main body circumferences to measure and keep track of are the waist, hips, neck, arms, thighs, and calves. Here are things you should remember while measuring your body circumferences:

  • Measure the widest part calves, upper arms, hips, neck, and forearms

  • For the thighs, make sure to measure just below the buttocks

  • For the waist, I recommend my clients measure 4cm above, below and around the belly button to make things super simple

  • Remember to measure each circumference twice and calculate the average of the two measurements to get a perfectly accurate result

  • Don’t apply excessive pressure to the skin with the tape while measuring, and don’t wear clothes that are too tight while measuring

  • Try to make sure that you always measure your body circumferences at the same time everyday and before doing any kind of physical activity

Don’t worry too much about fluctuations in any of your measurements because fluctuations are completely normal. Everyone fluctuates from day to day, week to week and month to month. If your goal is to lose fat, as long as you’re losing fat as an average over time you’re winning. Likewise if your goal is to put weight on, as long as your measurements are going up on average, you’re winning.

Now that you’ve found out the correct way of determining all your body measurements, you can begin your journey towards your ideal healthy body. Here’s to a happier and healthier lifestyle!
